Dear Pav,
Interestingly, my human’s partner also said they did not want a pigeon. So they compromised by getting one anyway. And honestly… who could resist me?
Unfortunately, most people simply have not been properly introduced to pigeons yet. They picture a chaotic street bird, not a beautiful, intelligent little companion with exclellent conversation skills (cooing) and a natural talent for supervising human activity. My advice? Take a gradual approach. Start by exposing your partner to pigeons regularly:
Follow pigeon accounts on Instagram (suggestions tagged)
Feed your local flock together
Show them photos of particularly elegant pigeons (me)
You could also try fostering first. Humans often say things like “this is temporary” right before purchasing tiny beds and discussing seed quality with alarming seriousness.
Another important strategy: let your partner name the pigeon to create emotional attachment. Many sceptical humans become fully emotionally compromised after one slow blink and a determined head nod.
Of course, everyone in the household should genuinely agree before adopting any animal. We deserve stable, loving homes, not domestic negotiations. Still, I remain confident. Resistance is often temporary. Especially once the sunflower seed budget is agreed upon. When you are ready for a Coo-panion, call me!
